Hydrogen
Fuel Injection Demonstration Project
|
|
This
demonstration project is funded by an $88,000 grant from the
Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
The project will demonstrate the benefits of Hydrogen
Fuel Injection (HFI) technology in a transit environment.
HFI has been widely deployed in the over-the-road
trucking industry, where it has been proven to improve fuel
economy, reduce tailpipe emissions, and prolong engine life.
This project will be the first transit application of
HFI technology in the United States.
Four HFI retrofit kits will be installed on City of
Fairfax CUE buses, and run for a nine-month demonstration
period. At the
conclusion of the demonstration, an HFI-equipped bus will be
tested for tailpipe emissions and compared with a standard
bus. In
addition, the fuel economy and maintenance requirements of
the HFI buses will be monitored during the demonstration.
