SmarTrip Fareboxes and the Regional Clearinghouse

Purchase and Installation of SmarTrip Compatible Fareboxes on Local Transit Systems

NVTC, with funding from DRPT, FTA, and local transit agencies, entered into a contract with Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. to purchase 484 SmarTrip compatible fareboxes for Arlington ART, Alexandria DASH, city of Fairfax CUE, Fairfax Connector, Loudoun County Transit, and PRTC's OmniRide and OmniLink buses. As of June 11th, 2007, these new fareboxes have been installed and are fully operational on all these transit systems, with the exception of ART. Due to garage relocation issues, the ART installation has been delayed until August of 2007.  With the installation of these fareboxes Northern Virginia's commuters are able to travel between Northern Virginia, the Washington Metropolitan area and the Baltimore region seamlessly, using a single fare medium - the SmarTrip smartcard.

Technical Assistance to NVTC on the SmarTrip Farebox Procurement

NVTC awarded a contract to the IBI Group to provide technical assistance to NVTC in managing the installation of the SmarTrip compatbile fareboxes being purchased through Cubic Transportation Systems. The IBI group provides technical expertise during the procurement, testing, and installation of the 484 fareboxes and related garage revenue collection systems for the local transit agencies.
